Look at the previous post to see updated photos of Flora!

Now for my recent thoughts on the matching process. I think that the job of matcher may be one of the most spectacular jobs EVER! I am interested to hear from my fellow adoption folks what you think it was about your dossier/biography that the "matcher" saw to choose your child for you.
I know that in my heart it was Flora's name, "little sail." We are sailors of the sea. We love the water. In fact, Joe was gone last week sailing a motor sailer down the intercoastal waterway. I also think that her referral pictures look a bit like Joe. One more thing our next sailboat will be named ZiFan....
So why do you think your child was matched with you???

Hmmmm...good question Ellen. I think we were matched with Olivia because my features and hers are similar. I have a round face and eyes that are sorta big and she does also. I am dark skin and she is dark skinned also. I so love her color.

I've had family and friends comment on how she looks like me lol. I think its hilarious only because I use to joke with my husband all the time about how it was that China was going to match us because we are so physically different but they did a good job lol.

My wife and I think they match the baby to the father, paying close attention to the bridge of the nose and the eyes. That is just our theory. Of course, the passport photos I had taken three years ago for our dossier were done at Wallgreens, and I was wearing a green sweatshirt, and the whole picture had a greenish tinge, so we were half expecting to get matched with a green child.

What a cutie patootie! The match....? In a magical world, our children would be matched according to likes, looks, interests. It doesn't matter how we got our children, the magic is that they are OUR children. The likes, looks, interests, ironically do, in fact, come after. Really, they do!

I have no idea. Since I had requested a 3-year-old, I think it was more a matter of what child was in the system, but it doesn't matter. She is, in fact, my daughter! If you talk about little signs, I never mentioned in my paperwork that I like cars and racing. When I received an updated report the day before I met her, it said her favorite toy was cars. I tore up the Guangzhou airport looking for a toy car. It was the first thing that got her to interact with me, pushing it back and forth. Love her!

We were in awe of whoever matched us to Kavanna, because they got it absolutely right! When I saw her referral photo, I got chills because she looked so much like my daughter Ariel - the same smile, the same joyful expression. I didn't want to compare Kavanna to Ariel, but there is no question that they have very similar temperments. There was something familiar about her from the beginning. Now that we've been together for about a month, I can confirm that she's a perfect match for our family... Whether by luck or design, she's perfect and we love her with all our hearts!

Back in the Summer of 2006 I was trying to figure out what would make me happiest. I had some choices to make and I realized more than anything I wanted to be a mommy. So soon I will get my XingFu or "Happiness" as her name is translated. That and we are just both so darn cute! =)
